Faculty Council

The Faculty Council is the expert council of the Faculty, which consists of employees elected to academic titles, senior assistants, two elected part-time employee representatives, two elected assistant representatives, and graduate and postgraduate student representatives. Student representatives make up 15% of the total number of Faculty Council members. When decisions are being made by the Faculty Council, student representatives have the right of suspensive veto on issues of particular interest to students.

The Faculty Council passes the Statute of the Faculty, elects and dismisses the Dean and Vice Deans, adopts budgets and the Faculty’s balance sheet, elects a Senate member from the ranks of professors holding an academic title, elects Biomedical Field Council representatives, appoints Heads of the Department and Centre Directors on the recommendation of the Dean, accepts syllabuses, accepts and oversees the implementation of study programmes, appoints members to permanent or temporary committees on the recommendation of the Dean, initiates and considers academic advancement and promotion applications and academic re-elections, appoints members to doctoral dissertation topic assessment panels, to doctoral dissertation assessment panels, and to doctoral dissertation and specialist thesis viva voce panels on the recommendation of either the Research Committee or the Education Committee, gives its opinion on the
procurement, installation and use of capital equipment at the University of Zagreb in the Faculty’s field of work, gives its approval to the Dean for legal matters in the amount of HRK 1,000,000.00 to 3,000,000.00, decides on the establishment of legal persons or organisational units to be established with the aim of interconnecting science, higher education and practice, and makes and creates human resources policy.
