About us

Faculty of Pharmacy and Biochemistry of the University of Zagreb is the only faculty and the leading scientific institution in the Republic of Croatia dedicated to educating pharmacy and medical biochemistry experts (Master of Pharmacy and Master of Medical Biochemistry and Laboratory Medicine).

The Faculty was founded on the long tradition of teaching and research activities. It is here where education and lifelong training is provided to intellectuals,that are recognizable and respected not only in the medical profession, but insociety as well. Together with the School of Medicine, the School of Dental Medicine and the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, the Faculty of Pharmacy and Biochemistry forms a group of biomedical faculties of the University of Zagreb. Today, the Faculty is a home to 950 graduate students (Master degree), and 200 postgraduate academic (scientific, PhD degree) and postgraduate professional (now called postgraduate specialist programs) students. The teaching stuff of the Faculty consists of 36 professors, 18 assistant professors and 28 assistants / scientific novices that are involved in teaching and scientific research in the framework of 18 research projects. Teaching activities are conducted in 15 departments and two centres, spread over an area of approximately 8,500 m2 including additional 25,000 m2 of the Pharmaceutical Botanical Garden "Fran Kušan", founded in 1947.

The Faculty is recognised for ensuring excellence in pharmaceutical and medical biochemistry graduate and postgraduate programs andfor its contribution to the science.Through its scientific and research projects the Faculty collaborates at the national and international levelwith other faculties,research institutes, pharmaceutical industry, hospitals, public health institutions and pharmaceutical and medical biochemistry professional organisations.

The main aim of the Faculty is to promote science,to provide students with first-class education in the field of pharmacy and medical biochemistry, and to improve the health through education of contemporary health professionalsworking in the healthcare system, public health sector and research institutions.
